Obituary

WEBSTER – John S. Gornis, 70, died Monday, December 14, 2020 in UMASS/Memorial Healthcare, Clinton after an illness.

He leaves 2 sisters, Christine Czesnowski of Webster and Theresa M. Levasseur and her husband Wayne of Dudley; a brother, Joseph A. Gornis of Webster; a nephew, Jacob Levasseur and his fiancée Karen Agna of Sierra Vista, AZ; an aunt, Ludvicka Gonet of Zarki, Poland; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his infant sister Maria Gornis.

He was born in Hebron, Germany on July 13, 1950, a son of Stefan and Karolina A. (Gajewska) Gornis. He came to America at the age of one and has lived in Webster most of his life. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1968 and then earned an Associate Degree in Engineering from University of Lowell.

Mr. Gornis worked on construction projects for the Local Union 107 in Worcester before retiring.
He was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica and a golden member of both the PACC and the TSKK in Webster.

John was a sports fan of the New England Patriots, and enjoyed going to Red Sox games. He attended the Woodstock Music Festival in Woodstock, NY in 1969 and liked Rock n Roll, Jazz and the Blues. He was “a mild, gentle giant” who liked conversing with people on a variety of subjects.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, December 19, from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. There will be a time of visitation from 8:30 to 9:30 AM in the funeral home prior to the Mass. Current health guidelines will be in place and everyone is required to wear a mask. Donations in his name may be made to Saint Joseph Elementary School, 47 Whitcomb Street, Webster, MA 01570.
