Obituary

CHICOPEE – Luke “Pepere” Lessard, Sr., 77, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, December 13, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Granby, Province of Quebec, Canada on June 14, 1943, a beloved son of the late Lucien Lessard who was Called Home on September 7, 1971 and the late Beatrice (Corriveau) Lessard who was Called Home on May 16, 2003. He moved with his family at a young age to Chicopee where he was raised, graduated from Chicopee High School and was a resident for most of his life. He was employed as a supervisor for 25 years at the Corporate Offices of Big Y Supermarkets in Springfield and retired in 2018. He previously was employed at the former Art Cement Products in Wilbraham. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where he served his parish as an Usher. He was a member of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks, the Fairview Knights of Columbus Council 4044 and the Moose Family Center, all in Chicopee. In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching football, baseball and NASCAR and especially enjoyed his many trips to Canada to visit family and friends. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. Luke leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Lisette N. (Martel) Lessard. They were married on May 29, 1968 in Springfield and were blessed with over 52 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving sons who always referred to their dad as “Our Hero”, Robert L. “Rob” Lessard and his wife, Renee, of Chicopee, Richard A. Lessard and his wife, Angela, of Granby, Luke Lessard, Jr. and his wife, Christine, of North Grosvenordale, CT and Rock A. Lessard and his partner, Kelly Underwood, of Chicopee; his ten cherished grandchildren, Krystyane, Mylyssa, Ryan, Sara, Leanne, Gavin, Luke III, Tianna, Rhyan and Ashley; his cherished great granddaughter, Azatelle; his dear sister, Louise of Kentucky; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Martel family, Laurette Debiens of Canada, Monique Breault of Chicopee and Julie Noel and her husband, Claude, Jean Martel and his wife, Lise, Pierre Martel and his wife, Lucille, Beatrice Martel and Ghislaine Martel, all of Canada; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brothers-in-law of the Martel family, Gerard, Jean, Victorin, Viateur, Paul, Andre, Germain and Jean Martel. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Sainte Rose de Lima Church, c/o 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 or to Saint Joan of Arc School, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
