Obituary

CHICOPEE – Shirley Germaine (Morin) Pronovost, 91, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, completed her earthly pilgrimage at her home in the comfort of her family on Monday, December 7, 2020. She has joined her Lord, her husband, Donald E. Pronovost, who entered his eternal reward on December 10, 1997, and their infant son, Scott J. Pronovost on March 25, 1963. Given the name Germaine, she was born in Holyoke on November 9, 1929 to the late Leo and Eva (St. Germain) Morin, graduated from Holy Rosary High School and married Donald on February 12, 1949. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee, and during her long life raised all of her children as a full-time dedicated homemaker, took them all to church, and taught them their prayers. When her youngest went to school full-time, she began a career that included Friendly’s Restaurant, American Advertising, and Everson Distributors, retiring in 1994. She loved being with her children and their families, to travel to the Cape when she could, to go out to breakfast, to play cards, and to watch her favorite Turner Classic Movies. She leaves her two sons, David (Diane) of West Springfield, Donald (Judith) of Charlemont and four daughters, Christine her caregiver, and Susan Valcourt (Robert), all of Chicopee, Laura Black (Guy) of Feeding Hills, and Leslie Stokowski (Jeffrey) of Westfield. She also leaves her nine grandchildren, Matthew Pronovost (Catherine) of Hampden, Donna Rawson (Christopher) of West Springfield, Rebecca Pronovost (Donny Paquette) of Holyoke, Elizabeth Ellsworth (Trevor) of Chicopee, Jonathan Pronovost of Brockton, Mark Valcourt (Rebecca) of Westfield, Scott Valcourt (Jillian) of Wales, Samantha Bryson (Jamie) of Springfield, and Allison Duffy (Kevin) of Waltham. Also ten great-grandchildren, Jacob, Abigail, Katelyn, and Megan Pronovost of Hampden, Chase Ellsworth of Chicopee, Linken Geddis of Holyoke, Viviann Valcourt of Westfield, and Madelynn and Emilie Dart and Charlotte Valcourt of Wales. In addition to her parents, husband, and infant son, she was predeceased by her three brothers, Roger, Richard, and Robert Morin, and her sister, Carol Murray. Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed at the funeral home, church and cemetery, attendance is limited due to state regulations). Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear.
