Olivia Jean Powell of Oxnard, California passed away on December 5, 2020 in Oxnard. She was born in McComb, Mississippi to Oliver Powell and Mildred Powell on May 19, 1947. She attended Oxnard Beauty College, graduated in 1977, received her instructor’s license in 1979, and became an instructor for over 20 years. She earned an honorary ‘Doctorate of Support’ from the University of Hackett. Dr. Powell enjoyed going to church, traveling, going to the beach, listening to music, cooking soul food, and visiting her grandkids. She was a member of Bible Way Church of God and Christ. She worked as a cosmetologist for over 40 years. She had an infectious smile and caring heart. Known as “Ma”, Ms. O, and/or Wee Wee, she was loved and cherished by many.
Olivia is survived by her children, Doris Hackett Koontz (Darrell), Denise Carter (Wills), Clinton Hackett, Christopher Hackett (Vanessa), Cedric Hackett (Olivia), Venessa Hackett-Jacobs, and Claudia Ross; her siblings, Johnnie Ruth Williams (Bip), Addie Bell Tucker, and Mary Powell Lewis; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by ex-husband, Charles Edward Hackett; parents, Oliver Powell and Mildred Powell; brothers, Junior Lee Sartin, Martin Sartin (Woosie), Jimmy Lewis; sisters Janie Sheldon Sartin, and Billy Filmore (Tootie); and sons, Edward Hackett and Charles Hackett, Jr. Flowers, condolences, and donations may be made to Denise Carter [1010 Berkshire Street, Oxnard, CA 93033] or through Venmo (Esther-Carter); Zelle (8053004301), or CashApp ($denisecarter123).
