Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - George S. Mavredakis, 74, of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, December 6, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Chania, Crete, Greece on December 4, 1946, a beloved son of the late Spiro and Angeliki (Theodorakis) Mavredakis. He was raised and educated in Greece and served in the Greek Army. He immigrated to the United States in 1969 where he settled in Springfield. He was currently the owner and operator of the Brookside Bar and Grill in Higganum, CT and previously owned the Pizza Village and Pizza Town, both in Springfield and the Grecian Fare at the Ingleside Mall in Holyoke to name a few. He was a communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield where he served as a former member of the Cathedral board. He was also a member of the AHEPA and a Past President of the Minos-Crete Association, both in Springfield. George was a hard-working man who was loved and respected by all who knew him. He leaves his beloved wife, Bess Vasiliki (Perrakis) Mavredakis. They were married on June 25, 1972 at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield and were blessed with over 48 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving sons, Spiro G. Mavredakis and his wife, Sara, and Emmanuel G. Mavredakis and Maria Nikolis with her son, Efstratios; his six cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Anastasia, Nicholas, Michael, Samuel and Mary-Alice; his dear brother, Haralambos Mavredakis and his wife, Katerina, of Crete, Greece; his sister, Anna Haritakis of Crete, Greece; his dear brother-in-law, Charles Perrakis of Longmeadow; and his many treasured nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of his family in the United States and Crete, Greece. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Eftihios Mavredakis; and his brother-in-law, Haris Haritakis. George will Lie in Repose on Monday, December 14, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. which will be followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. His Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Minos-Crete Inc., Building Fund, 35 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
