Donald W. Pettis, 86, of the Bowens Mill community, died Friday, November 27, 2020, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Georgia.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Pettis was born November 19, 1934, in Jackson, Tennessee, to the late Edwin F. & Emma May Harper Pettis. He was a graduate of the Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee and earned a Bachelors degree in Engineering from Georgia Tech. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Texas Instruments. He was very involved in his church and community at Bowens Mill and helped to cultivate a new church community in the country of Colombia. He was an avid gardener and blessed many friends and family with his crops.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Laurie Craven Pettis of the Bowens Mill community; a daughter, Robin Pettis of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Barnes.
