Obituary

Mrs. Ann G. (Smith) Rahming, 84, of Methuen, passed away on December 1, 2020 at Holy Family Hospital. The daughter of the late Harold and Myrtle (Kidd) Smith, she was born in Lawrence, MA on October 16, 1936. Ann graduated from Punchard High School in Andover, MA and attended Massachusetts College of Arts in Boston, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education and was a recipient of the Amy Rachel Wittier Award for excellence in teaching. Ann has taught school in Athol, MA, San Diego, CA, Quincy, MA, Minneapolis, MN, Buenos Aires, Argentina and London, England. Upon her return to the United States in 1974, she began a second career in Life and health Insurance. She also had a one person show ofg tapestries at Gallery 410 at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. After an insurance sales career with Loyal Protective insurance Company of Boston, MA, and Sun Life of Canada in Wellesley, MA, she went to State Mutual Insurance Company in Worchester, MA. There she was Director of Life Product Merchandising, developing sales and teaching materials for life insurance agents. While at that company, she was President of the New England Training Director’s Association and a member of the American Business Women’s Association. Ann alsoo published several articles for insurance publications. In retirement Ann continued with an art career. She had a studio for tapestries and was president of the artist group at Brush With History in Lowell, MA, and has had the website Threadpainting.com. Ann participates in the Arts Institute Group of Merrimack Valley, she is an active member showing art work and donating art work for the scholarship fund sponsored by the group. New art works by the artist are fiber and thread designs on canvas and miniature pastel paintings of sites on a trip across the United states and Nova Scotia. Most recently papier-mache sculptures. Ann has also shown her work at Hewlett Packard in Burlington, MA, Brush With History in Lowell, MA in local churches, The New England Quilt Museum store the Andover Library, Nevins Library, Methuen, MA, American Textile Museum gift shop, Whistler House Gallery, and All Arts Gallery in Lowell, MA. Ann’s art work furthers her philosophy that the painting or sculpture should leave the room for the viewer’s imagination to enter. Ann’s complete biography can be found in Who’s Who of American Women 1986-88. She is pre-deceased by her brother Dean Smith. Ann is survived by her daughter Jennifer Barbas of Dracut, MA son Charles Rahming and his wife Lyn of Dracut, MA, four grandchildren Mathew Rahming, Alexa Rahming, Anastasia Barbas, and Alexandria Barbas. There are several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Edgar J. Racicot Inc. Funeral Home, 1400 Broadway Rd., Dracut. A funeral service will be held at the Racicot Funeral home at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, 5 Spring Grove Rd, Andover.
