Newport, RI – Esther E. (Crapo) Carter, 74, of Little Compton, RI died after a long illness on March 11, 2006 at the Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport. She was the wife of William S. “Sonny” Carter, Jr., they were married for 55 years.
Mrs. Carter was born in Westport, MA, daughter of the late Orin and Esther (Babcock) Crapo. She resided in Westport, later in Foxboro and finally in Little Compton. She was a member of the First Baptist Old Stone Church, Tiverton, RI and a former member of the Foxboro Baptist Church. She was employed by Becton Dickerson in Walpole and later by Telco Systems in Norwood as an inspector retiring in 1987. She enjoyed walking on the beach and golfing.
In addition to her widower, she is survived by 2 daughters: Linda Hinkle of Harrington, DE and Susan Lodge of Tuscon, AZ; 2 brothers: Robert Crapo of FL and Charley Crapo of Tiverton; 4 sisters: Mary Crapo of Newport, Evelyn Levesque of NM, and Edith Travers of Westport, and Virginia Pierce of Westport; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
She was sister of the late Orin Crapo, Jr. and Janet Reed.

Funeral service on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. at the First Baptist Old Stone Church, Tiverton, RI.

Interment in Pleasant View Cemetery, Tiverton.
