Obituary

“Boston“InternationalRichard E. "Pookey" Woods, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, November 30, 2020 at his home in Charlestown. He was 82 years of age.

Pookey was born in Boston on May 20, 1938, a son of the late John E. Woods and Rose (Gow) Woods. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Mary's Parochial School and Charlestown High School. Pookie enlisted into the United States Army on November 19, 1956 and served his country with pride and honor. He was discharged on November 17, 1958 with the rank of Private. Pookey worked on the waterfront as a member of the International Longshoremen's Association Local #799 and as a Boston Firefighter Local #718 where he was stationed at Engine 50. Pookey was a charter member of the Halligan Club and a member of DAV.

Pookey is the beloved husband of the late Sally M. (Sullivan) Woods. He is the loving father of Kelly Considine and her husband Danny, Kevin Woods and his wife Pattyann, Boston Fire Department Captain Patrick Woods (Engine Co. 39) and his wife Erin, and the late Richard E. Woods and Daniel E. "Danny" Woods. He is the caring Papa to Boston Fire Department Lieutenant Danny Considine, Colleen Considine, Shannon Considine, Kevin Woods, Brian Woods, Elle Woods, Patrick Woods, Connor Woods, and Lil Papa to his great-grandchildren Sean, Kallie, Ava and Danny. He is the beloved brother of Roger "Pee Wee' Woods and his wife Janet, Mary Griffin and her husband Paul, Janet "Twinkle" Sullivan and her husband Pat, and Susan DeOliveiras and her husband Jaider, and the late John "Buster" Woods and his surviving wife Loretta. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Marilyn Brassil and Rosemary Campbell, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Pookey's visiting hours on Friday morning, December 4, 2020 from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Frances De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. (FACIAL COVERINGS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING IS REQUIRED INSIDE CHURCH AND FUNERAL HOME).
