Barry Thomas Nieman of Whidbey Island, WA, passed away November 1, 2020 following a brief battle with cancer. He was 64 years of age. Barry was born in Camden, NJ on July 7, 1956. He was the son of Richard and Barbara (Willwerth) Nieman.
Barry was a graduate of the North East Regional Vocational High School in Wakefield, MA where he majored in food services. Barry worked as a Baker at Camp Beckett, Heartland and Purity Supreme grocery stores prior to his move to Washington State. For the past thirty years, Barry called Whidbey Island his home. He was an active member of St. Hubert's Catholic Church. Until his passing he was the Grocery manager at Ken's Korner Red Apple market. Barry was also a proud United States Navy Veteran and served aboard the USS Woodrow Wilson Submarine.
Barry had many hobbies and in his leisure time he enjoyed comic book and coin collecting, listening to music, especially Bruce Springsteen. He was a movie buff and loved to read anything from a good mystery, topics on current events, politics to history.
In addition to his father, Barry is predeceased by his brothers, Paul and David Nieman as well as his nephew Christopher.
He is survived by his mother Barbara and his siblings, Richard Nieman, Barbara Winslow, Michael Nieman, Philip Nieman, John Nieman and Theresa Painter. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews and dear friend, Shannon E. Johannson and her late husband James.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral Mass that will be celebrated at Sacred Hearts Church, 297 main St., Malden, Monday, December 7th, at 10 a.m. Interment services will be held at a later date. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions in Barry's memory may be made to the Independence Fund, 9013 Perimeter Fund Drive, Suite E, Charlotte, NC 28216.
