Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Edward J. O'Connor, 72, of the East Forest Park section of Springfield, was called safely home on Friday, November 27, 2020, embraced by the love and comfort of his family. He was born in Springfield on October 1, 1948, the beloved son of the late Edward J. and Helen M. (Kibbe) O'Connor. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School, and remained a lifelong resident of Springfield after earning his bachelor’s degree from Saint Michael's College in Winooski, Vermont. His career was in sales, primarily with the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was known as Eddie, Tertius, Dad, Baca, Grandpa, Eddie Joe, and more. He was an outstanding husband, father, and grandfather, an easy smiler, an unquestioning repairman, a faithful friend, and trusted counselor. He was the laugh that filled the room; he was quiet dignity; he was strength; he was kindness. He leaves his partner and soul mate, Christine M. (Langone) O'Connor. They were married on August 1, 1975 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 45 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving sons, Jeffrey K. O'Connor and his spouse, Andrea Momnie O'Connor, of Wilbraham, and Brian E. O'Connor and his spouse, Kristin (Hallahan) O'Connor, of Bloomington, IN; his four cherished grandchildren, for whom he was always a willing accomplice, John Edward O'Connor, Stella Ryan O'Connor, Oscar Garcia O'Connor, and Eleanor Theresa O'Connor; his three sisters-in-law, Angela Dowd of West Springfield, Marianne Karam of Agawam, and Barbara Cummings and her husband, Ned, of South Carolina; his brother-in-law, James Langone and his wife, Chiqui Guiribitey, of Florida, and his brother-in-law, Michael Agen; as well as his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended members of the O'Connor and Langone families, and a lifetime of friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Helene (O'Connor) Vail and her husband, Robert Vail; his sister-in-law, Joyce (Langone) Agen; and his brothers-in-law, Timothy Dowd and Peter Karam. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. (Please meet directly at the church. Masks are required with social distance per state regulations and church capacity is 40%). His burial will be private. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
