Obituary

Donald Sylvia, 81, of New Bedford died Sunday, November 22, 2020 at home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Doreen L. (Costa) Sylvia.

Born in Dartmouth, son of the late Edward and Mary (Aguiar) Sylvia, he lived in Dartmouth until moving to New Bedford 25 years ago.

He was formerly employed by Duro Textiles for many years until his retirement. In his younger years, he worked on his family's farm, Sylvia Farms, in Dartmouth.

Donald enjoyed breeding and raising his prize winning horses, tractor pulls, hanging out with his friends Georgie and Brian Costa, taking care of his grandson Kaidyn, and visits from Jillian, Kendryk, and Jacob.

He is survived by his wife, Doreen; five children, Mary Jane Herman, Michelle Sylvia, Wendy Costa, Lisa May, and Donald E. Sylvia; three step-children, Joel Costa, April McKinnon, and Timothy Boutin; his brother, David Sylvia; his sisters-in-law, Brenda Summers and Wendy DePina; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Richard and Robert Sylvia, Natalie Rodriques, and Dorothy Morrow.
