Obituary

Ava Augusta Hingson, age 19, of Cornwall, Connecticut, passed away November 17, 2020 in a riding accident. As a scion of JAJ Henderson and his wife Martha Paulk Henderson, she spent innumerable summers and holidays at his Ocilla homeplace. While there she trained at stables in Pearson and Tifton.

She was born on May 20, 2001, in Sharon, Connecticut to Andrew Hingson and Elise Meneshian Hingson. She was a second-year English literature student at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. During her time in college, she rapidly progressed as a member of the Equestrian Team, as an artist, lover of nature, and, profoundly, as a poet. Her spirit captured all she met and pointed towards an enriched way of living. Ava’s radiance will endure in us.

Other than her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Hagop and Sylviagene Meneshian, her beloved uncle, Dicron Meneshian and a host of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins from both sides of her family. She is also preceded in death by her Ocilla paternal grandparents, renowned physician and humanitarian, Robert A. Hingson and Gussie Dickson Hingson.

She will be interred Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 11:00 A.M., in the Henderson plot at Brushy Creek Cemetery, Ocilla, Georgia. A gathering and informal lunch for all will be held afterwards on the front lawn of the Henderson House, 804 South Irwin Avenue, Ocilla for any who might care to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund at The University of the South.
