Obituary

Roland G. Farland, Jr., 71, of New Bedford died Saturday, November 21, 2020 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Diane S. (Pelletier) Morris.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Roland G. and Irene C. (Phaneuf) Farland, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Roland was a communicant of St. John Neumann Church.

He was formerly employed as a project manager by Hi-Way Paving and Rhodes Corporation and as the chief estimator for Farland Corporation. He was also the owner of Farland Enterprises for many years until his retirement. In his younger years, he was also employed as the Captain of a fishing boat.

Roland loved spending time with his wife, with whom he was friends for 48 years before their story came full circle on November 23, 2019, when they married. He also loved spending time with his family, friends, and Tuckerdog. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, skiing, listening to music, especially the Beatles, and watching football. He was a #1 Patriots Fan all his life.

The love he had for his family and friends was unsurpassed. He touched so many lives. He lived a good life, always helping others and he always wanted the best for everyone.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; three sons, Roland Farland, III, Dana Farland and his wife Stephanie, and Christian Farland and his wife Elizabeth; his step-son, Michael Morris; three step-daughters, Tracy DeAraujo, Rachael Lewis, and Jennifer Pereira; six brothers, Steven Farland, Kevin Farland, Peter Farland, Thomas Farland, Gary Farland, and Patrick Farland; six sisters, Joyce Silva, Muriel Fenton, Dianne Paradis, Roberta Bruce, Catherine Ferrell, and Teresa Robinson; many grandchildren, who he loved dearly; and several great-grandchildren, that added more joy to his life.

He was predeceased by his wife, Brenda (Roderick) Farland; his siblings, Brian Farland, Michael Farland, and Jeanne Haliday; and his step-son, Shawn Lewis.

His Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 9:30 AM at St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd., East Freetown, with everyone meeting directly at the Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
