Barbara A. Berry, 84, of Derry, NH, died Thursday, March 9, 2006 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. Miss Berry was born in Boston, MA on May 10, 1921, and raised by Franklin and Abigail (Gilcreast) Berry in Derry, where she was a lifelong resident. Barbara was a Pinkerton Academy graduate, class of 1939. She worked for Nynex for 37 years, retiring in 1984. Barbara was the chief operator for Derry prior to the phone company going dial. She was a member of the Pioneers. Following her retirement she began selling books at the Hollis Flea Market for 17 years. Together with her friend, Mona Davis, they were known as “The Book Ladies." She enjoyed genealogy, reading and books, loved animals and her nieces and nephews. She was also a member of the Derry Public Library.
She is survived by her lifelong friend, Mona "Lee" Davis of Derry, nephew, Donald Hilliard & his wife, Marilyn of Derry, and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, William Berry and her sister, Doris Hilliard.
Following cremation a graveside service will be held in the Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Derry Public Libraries, 64 East Broadway, Derry, NH 03038.
