Obituary

Mrs. Virginia M. (Carr) Donovan, age 85, of Medford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, November 12, 2020, at Massachusetts General Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born May 19, 1935, in Charlestown, MA, the daughter of the late Joseph & Grace (Fitzgerald) Carr. She eventually moved to Malden where she spent her younger years and then most importantly met the love of her life, Robert Donovan (Bo). Virginia and Bo got married on April 30, 1955 and spent the next 65 years together, creating a family, traveling the country, and enjoying the life they created. She leaves behind many loved ones who will forever miss her and her spark for life.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert E. Donovan. For the last 65 years they were together, side-by-side, taking “just another day”, one day at a time. They made it through the good and the bad, they weathered the storms of life together, always making sure they loved one another and their family.

Virginia leaves behind her daughter and best friend, Jean M. Mahoney and her husband Patrick of Plum Island, Newbury, her son Robert E. Donovan, Jr. of Medford, and her son James K. Donovan, his wife Anna, and his step-daughter Sarah Palumbo of Medford. Virginia leaves behind three grandchildren, Kerri D. (Mahoney) Tolman and her husband Michael of Newbury, Kevin D. Mahoney of Plum Island, and Stephen J. Donovan of Medford, none of who will ever forget the beautiful impact their Grammie made on their lives.

Virginia is survived by her sister Justine Brogan of Everett, MA, her brother Joseph Carr of Lake Havasu, AZ, and Ann Boyd of Malden, MA.

Virginia loved taking trips with her husband to Arizona to see her family and to visit the Las Vegas casinos for some quality slot machine time and big winnings. She loved being out in the sunshine and relaxing. Her grandchildren were the pride and joy in her life. She watched Kerri as a baby and soon enough they became the best of friends. A few years later Kevin came along and then Stephan, she suddenly had her hands filled with lots of love.

Virginia holds a special place in many people’s hearts. She is survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
