Obituary

Jerry E. “Snooky” Kent, 71, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Thursday, November 12, 2020, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, November 15, 2020, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Minister Mike Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Kent was born February 4, 1949, in Moultrie, Georgia, to the late Minor A. Kent and the late Lecie Jane Martin Farmer. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, having been awarded a Bronze Star Medal. He earned his diesel mechanic degree from Ben Hill-Irwin Tech. He worked as a mechanic for Ross of Georgia. Mr. Kent always drove Chrysler vehicles and made sure his family drove them also. He was in a bowling league for many years and enjoyed throwing darts. He owned his own race car and enjoyed working on automobiles and was a very talented mechanic.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer & Daniel Mobley of Irwin County; five grandsons: Michael Hutto, Cayden Shealey, J.D. Mobley, Bryson Mobley, and Zachary Mobley; and a sister, Martha & Tommy Gibbs of Thomasville. Several nieces and nephews also survive including Jimmy Kent, and his wife Bree of Irwin County, who was like a son to Jerry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Marie Hendley and three brothers: Minor A. Kent, Jr., John Wayne Kent, and Stanley Curtis Kent.
