Obituary

Sally Zammarelli, 51, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 while at home.
A lifelong resident of Smithfield, RI, Sally was a beloved daughter, devoted mother, and much-loved sister. Sally grew up in the Esmond section of Smithfield where she enjoyed taking care of her menagerie of pets. Growing up, Sally was an avid horseback rider and skier. Sally attended La Perche Elementary School, graduated from Smithfield High School, and obtained an Associate Degree in Equine Studies from Johnson & Wales. In her adult life, Sally dedicated her time to her family, her animals and helping run the family restaurant.
From the horses she rode at our home early on to always having a dog by her side, Sally had a deep love of animals throughout her life. She was a strong advocate for animal rights and used social media to maintain a wide network of individuals who were like-minded in their love of animals. She often connected potential owners with potential pets. Through The Windwalker Humane Coalition, Sally traveled around the state with her trained therapy dog, Tytus, visiting schools, hospitals and senior centers to put a smile on other’s faces.
Sally worked beside her family for decades as manager and server at the family business, Tommy’s Place, in Providence, Rhode Island. Through her work, she made many connections and friendships that lasted a lifetime. Her easy-going nature and bright personality at work turned many customers into regulars who were part of the Tommy’s Place extended family.
