Obituary

Lois Jean (Brown) Girt, 93, of Anderson passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at her residence following an extended illness.

Lois was born on November 21, 1926 in Henry County, Indiana. She was the second child of Paul and Hildred Brown. Lois graduated from Cadiz High School in 1944 and then went to work for Chrysler in New Castle, Indiana for the remainder of World War II.

After the war, Lois was hired at Guide Lamp in 1946. Lois met her future husband and lifelong love, Roy Girt, while both were working at Guide, and the couple was married on November 27, 1948. Three years later, they welcomed their only son Ron, and Lois left Guide Lamp to raise Ron. Lois later went to work for Anaconda Wire and Cable Company and then Brockway Glass, where she retired with twenty years of service in 1990.

In 1985, Lois welcomed her only grandchild, Andrea. Much of her retirement was spent babysitting Andrea and supporting her in all of endeavors as she grew up. Then, in 2017, she welcomed her only great grandchild, Alexander, and spent much of her time caring for and playing with him. In addition to time spent with family, Lois became heavily involved in genealogy and became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution during retirement. Lois enjoyed traveling, cooking Sunday dinner, arts and crafts projects, and surfing the Internet and social media.

Lois is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ron and Caryn, her grandson-in-law and granddaughter Brad and Andrea Meadows, her great grandson Alexander Meadows, her brother Ronald (wife Shirley) Brown and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, her parents, and her sister Betty Stout.

A graveside service will be held for Lois on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery with Brad and Andrea Meadows speaking. In order to mitigate Covid 19 risks, masks will be required, and social distancing will be observed at the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Operation Love Christmas Wishes Program.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mark Lawlor and St. Vincent Hospice for their care and support.

Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
