Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Saturday at 8am. Funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish (formerly St. Colman Church) at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Visiting Hours Friday 4-8pm.
Obituary
Thomas M. Riordan, died Tuesday evening at the Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. Born in Hanover, son of the late Michael J. and Margaret M. (Durkin) Riordan, he moved to Brockton at the age of two. He had been a member of St. Edward’s Parish until his marriage to Geraldine M. (Delaney) Riordan on June 27, 1953, in St. Colman’s Church, then became an active member of St. Colman’s. He was a former member of the Holy Name Society, the Legion of Mary and retired as Head Usher after more than 30 years at the 12 o’clock mass. Everyone knew Tom and loved his wit. He was a member of the French Club, Polish White Eagles, American Legion and a former member of Ireland’s Own. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Gerry, relatives, friends, and his time share in Aruba.
He was employed at Armstrong Cork Company in South Braintree for 42 years, retiring in 1982 where he had served as Union President. He also served in the Military Police of the US Army during WWII. He was discharged after three of his brothers and a sister were all sent over seas. This was after the five Sullivan brothers had been killed.
He is survived by his wife Gerry, one sister Ellen M. Riordan of Brockton, two brothers Jeremiah J. Riordan of Barrington, RI and John P. Riordan of Brockton. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, a brother in law and five sisters in law.
