Obituary

CHICOPEE – Denis Chabot, 76, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, November 9, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Saint Charles de Bellechasse, Province of Quebec, Canada on October 10, 1944, a beloved son of the late Philippe and Yvonne (Larochelle) Chabot. He was raised and educated in Canada, moved to Springfield in 1964, then to Chicopee in 2006, where he lived the remainder of his life. He was last employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Department of Public Works for the City of Springfield and retired in 2003. He was previously employed in construction for Chabot Concrete in Hampden and Rene’s Concrete in Westfield. Active in his Catholic faith, he was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where he served his parish as an usher. He was a member of the Springfield Lodge of Elks 61. Above all, he loved spending time with his wife and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Frances R. (Fournier) Chabot. They were married on October 4, 1969 at the former Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 51 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four dear sisters, Raymonde Couture of West Springfield, Jeannine Carrier of Agawam, Lorraine Samson and her husband, Gerard, of St. Charles de Bellechasse, P.Q., Canada, and Eloise Anderson and her husband, Edwin, of Agawam; his loving mother-in-law, Anita Gondek of Chicopee; his three dear sisters-in-law, Norma Chabot of Westfield, Odette Greenberg and her husband, Joseph, of West Springfield, and Joanne Letendre of Longmeadow; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, and many good friends who will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three dear brothers, Jean-Paul Chabot and his wife, Dorothy, Rene Chabot, and Roger Chabot; and his two dear brothers-in-law, Richard Couture and Andre Carrier. His family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Iyer and his staff at the Sister Caritas Cancer Center for their compassion and care. His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed at the funeral home, church and cemetery, attendance is limited due to state regulations). The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Joan of Arc School, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
