Obituary

Barbara L. Wymer (Munson), age 88, of Canton, peacefully passed away November 1st at the Copley at Stoughton, after bravely facing Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s with nary a complaint to be heard. Born in Norwood, she was raised in Stoughton and graduated from Stoughton High School and the Leland Powers School of Radio and Theatre in Boston. After performing summer stock theatre, Barbara moved to New York City where she worked for CBS Radio.
Barbara met the love of her life on a blind date on New Year’s Eve 1960 and became an officer’s wife living in Washington, DC and Germany during his service to the country. She was extremely devoted to her family and for over 33 years was her husband William’s primary caregiver after he suffered an aneurysm. Eternally curious and loyal, Barbara was a passionate reader, supporter of numerous charitable causes, and a faithful friend to those who knew her. She enjoyed family gatherings and was also a dedicated member of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Canton. In 1990 Barbara and her husband were co-founders of the Aphasia Community Group, now the Aphasia Resource Center at Boston University College of Health and Rehabilitation: Sargent College.
Beloved wife of the late Dr. William E. Wymer. Adored Mother of Kimberly Munson Sheehy of Canton and Greg William Wymer and his wife Lisa of Newton. Proud “Gram” of Daniel Munson Sheehy of Brooklyn, NY and Alexander Wymer of Newton. Loved Sister of the late Henry “Link” Munson and sister-in-law Carol Munson. Treasured Aunt of Pamela Munson Johnson and her husband Glenn, and Jeffrey Lincoln Munson and his wife Angela. She will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Canton on Thursday, November 5, from 4pm-7pm. A private funeral service and burial at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton will be held on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to Old Colony Hospice 321 Manley St. W.
