Obituary

Bertha R. Torrisi, 93, of Derry, NH died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Derry. She was born in Newton Lower Falls, MA on October 21, 1912, a daughter of the late Clarence and Susan (Richardson) Baker. Raised in Newton, she later lived in Lawrence, MA and has resided in Derry for the past 39 years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an examiner by the Internal Revenue Service in Andover, MA for more than twenty years. Mrs. Torrisi was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry and was a member of the Tabernacle Society of that parish. She was a member and past president of Local Chapter #784 of the AARP. She enjoyed a very active lifestyle with her husband and because of their unwavering support for the athletic program at Pinkerton Academy in Derry; the trophy for “Outstanding Athlete of the Year” is named in their honor.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, William J. Torrisi of Derry, two daughters, Else Hurst of Whitefield, NH and Phoebe English of Albuquerque, NM, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a grandson, Paul Richter in 1987.

Calling hours were on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday at 10 AM in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen MA.
