Obituary

William Russell Strohmer, Sr, of Ellicott City passed away peacefully at his home on October 30, 2020.

He was born to Mary and Joseph Strohmer, May 2, 1926 in Baltimore. Growing up on Pratt Street in Baltimore, Russ graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School and was employed by his father at Strohmer’s Hardware. He married Jeannette Adamecz in 1949 and together they raised a family of seven children. The family lived in Catonsville for 25 years, then moved to Ellicott City.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joe, his daughter Donna and his wife Jeannette. He is survived by his children Mary Theresa, Bill, Cheryl, Robert, Agnes, Craig, his sister Mary Margaret Goshorn and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Russ enlisted near the end of World War II and served in Europe in the Army Air Corps. When he returned to the States, he went to work at the family hardware store. When his father retired, Russ continued the family tradition and took over ownership of the store, until he in turn retired and passed the business over to his son Craig.

Russ was a devoted husband and father, enjoying woodworking projects for the children or the house, supporting various Boy Scout activities and doing the behind the scenes work at just about every Mother’s Club project at the St. Joseph Monastery Elementary School. He assembled thousands of rosaries for the Mission Club in his early years and recently found comfort and peace of mind when he returned to rosary making for the Ranger Rosary program.
