Obituary



Margarethe Z. Thomas, "M", died on Tuesday, March 7 in Waterford. She was born in New Castle, PA on Mar. 9th 1939 to Emily Louise (Dickey) and George Brown Zahniser.

Margarethe Brown Zahniser graduated from the Winchester Thurston School, Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1957. She graduated from Conn. College in 1961 with a BA in History of Art. After college she worked as a college counselor at Miss Porter's School and in admissions at Conn. College.

Mrs. Thomas was a local Stonington Real Estate agent for 30 years. She founded and operated Noah's Art, a little art gallery at Noah's Fine Foods in Stonington, for nearly 30 years.

She was a member of the Wadawanuck Club in Stonington for over 30 years, as well as an active member of the Stonington Dingy Club serving as race committee chairman since 1993. She was also a member of SVIA (Stonington Village Improvement Committee). Mrs. Thomas was an avid Bridge player, Gourmet Cook, and Gardener.

She is survived by her son Stirling H.Thomas III, his wife Donna D. Thomas and grandchildren Mackenzie, 6 and Emma 4, and her daughter Elizabeth H. Caño, her husband Fernando Caño Gil and grandchildren Ana María, 4 and Fernando Benito, 2. She is also survived by her sister Emily Louise Z. Baldridge and her husband Jerald Baldridge.


A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 11 at 11am at Calvary Church (Episcopal), Stonington. Burial will follow in the Calvary Memorial Garden and a reception will follow the services.
