Obituary

Mr. Joseph M. Leary, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved husband of the late Barbara G. (Baima) Leary, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday afternoon, October 27, 2020. He was 77 years old.

Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, on February 18, 1943, he was the beloved son of the late Edward and Gertrude (Kelly) Leary.

Joe was retired from Insurance Insolvency specializing in Workers Comp and had served in the National Guard. He was a member of the Arlington Retired Men’s Club and loved participating in their activities with his friends. He never wanted to miss the candlepin bowling, golf outings or trips to the casino. He loved rooting for the hometown teams and was lucky to see a number of championships in person with his son.

Joe loved his two greyhounds, Karlie and Touchy, whom he had adopted. He will be dearly missed.

Joe is survived by his loving son; Jake Leary of Lawrence, siblings; Ned and his wife Pat Leary of Boseman, Montana and Christina and her husband John Amabile of Macon, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Saturday, November 7, 2020, from 9-11:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford at Noon. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be held at a later date.
