Obituary

BALDWIN- Margaret Eleanor Daoust age 84, passed unexpectedly on October 26th 2020.
She was born in Haverhill, MA on May 2, 1936 to Raymond and Mary Farley. She married the love of her life, Richard Daoust in October of 1964 who preceded her in death in 2003.
Margaret or many who knew her as Maggie was an aspiring singer in her early years. She was in the Haverhill High School chorus. At the high school commencement senior class dinner she was the featured soloist.
After high school while working as a telephone operator and later at the local electric company, she went after her dream of becoming an accomplished singer.
In 1954 a year after she graduated from high school Maggie entered a local community talent show and won! She auditioned with The Dartmouth Entertainment Agency in Boston. She was accepted and was offered the opportunity to continue to fulfill her dream.
In the following year to further her love of singing, she was accepted by Miss Wilma Thompson as a pupil for voice lessons at Boston University's School of Fine and Applied Arts.
In 1963 Margaret appeared in the Sacred Heart Guild production of The King and I, playing the lead role Anna.
The Haverhill Gazette wrote," the more than 600 persons attending the Rogers and Hammerstein musical last night, received what they expected, a near professional performance by a group of talented amateurs".
She put her singing aspirations aside after she married to raise a family. When her daughter Ellen was older Maggie went back to work while living in Mechanic Falls at Goss/Handy Hardware. She started singing again at her church and also the First Congregational Church at the same time! She met people there that would become longtime friends.
She would also sing at weddings and other social functions.
She loved animals. She as a child adored her Collie tippy. Later she took in stray kitties.
Maggie is survived by her daughter Ellen Peck of East Baldwin and preceded by her son-in-law Frank, who called her 'Ma'. She is also survived by her step-granddaughter Jessica Peck-Lindsey and her husband Robert of Waterboro. Her niece Martha Adjutant and her husband Richard of Limington. Her other nieces Lisa Kilgore of Springvale and Laurie Kilgore of Portland plus other nieces and nephews too numerous to mention by name.
A special thank you to all the nurses and staff in the Dementia Unit at the Barron Center in Portland who treated her with such care and compassion while she was a resident there for the past 5 years.
