Fall River – M. Evelyn (Grindle) Lawton, 86, of Amity Street, Fall River, formerly of Westport died Monday, March 6, 2006 at Southpointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center. She was the widow of David S. Lawton.
She was born in Hampton, VA, daughter of the late Leon O. and Gladys M. (Alley) Grindle and step-daughter of the late Evelyn (Dunham) Grindle, and had lived in Westport for many years prior to moving to Fall River. A 1936 graduate of the former Thibodeau Business College, Fall River, she was a bookkeeper for Roland Hebert, Inc. until her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Lawton was a member of the Westport United Congregational Church, the Alpha Circle of the First Baptist Church, Fall River and a 25-year member of the Cortez Allen Chapter # 161 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Gladys E. (Renaud) Shelly of Newport, PA and Rosellen (Renaud) LePage of Fall River; a stepdaughter: Sandra Boudakian of Adamsville, RI; a foster daughter: Theresa Renaud of Swansea; a sister: Josephine Solmon of Somerset; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late Celia Carr and Frank Grindle.
Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport at 3:00 P.M. with an Eastern Star service by the Cortez Allen Chapter # 161 at 2:30 P.M.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service from 2 – 3 P.M.
Interment will be private.
