Obituary

Laurent J. “Larry” Cartier, 77, of 547 Clinton St., Woonsocket, died Monday at Hebert’s Nursing Home in Smithfield. He was the husband of the late Pauline (Chartier) Cartier.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Donat and Rose (Gregoire) Cartier. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Cartier served in the Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge.
He worked for Rockwell International Corp. for over 35 years, and also worked for Premier Thread Company, and for Visterwall Products Company for several years until retiring in 1991.
He was a longtime member of the Woonsocket Lodge of Elks, the Cercle Laurier, Woonsocket VFW Post 263, and the Woonsocket AMVETS. He enjoyed woodworking, and was an avid bowler and won several bowling trophies in local leagues.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Cartier, of Woonsocket, and Normand Cartier, of Woonsocket, a daughter, Elaine Wheeler, of Woonsocket. Two brothers, George Cartier, of North Carolina, and Gerard Cartier, of Woonsocket. Five sisters, Claire Trottier, of Blackstone, Rolande Dubois, of Woonsocket, Therese Trottier, of Bellingham, Estelle Valois, of Manville, and Jeanne Leverault, of Woonsocket. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in All Saints Church, Rathbun St. Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
