Obituary

Porter, ME - Chris Perkins, age 60, passed away peacefully at home early in the morning of October 20, 2020 after a courageous and fierce 4 year battle with cancer. Surrounded by family and friends until the very end, Chris’s transition was a gentle one filled with kindness, support, and so much love.

Born in Skowhegan, Maine on February 11, 1960, Chris lived in many different parts of Maine before moving to Porter to raise his family. He attended Southern Maine Community College, studying toward a degree in Criminal Justice, but had a wide range of interests, skills and jobs that allowed him to share his passions and creativity in numerous ways over the years. He especially enjoyed woodworking and crafting children’s toys, many of which he sold or donated in his local community. Always ready to lend a hand or an ear, Chris was loved by many and had so much care for the world.

He is survived by his wife Becky with whom he spent his last moments in peace and love, his children Marc, Mathew, John and April, his mother Diana, his sister Stacey, his beloved group of in-laws, nieces and nephews, and his cherished grandchildren Bella and Kaleb. These last two littles were the light of his life since the moment they were born, and we are sure he will be watching with just as much love when the newest little is welcomed into the world in the coming months! Chris also leaves behind an army of dear friends and loved ones of all kinds, collected easily but carefully over the years by his warm personality and enormous heart.

Many of you will remember Chris as the guy pouring over the craft or hardware section in search of the perfect piece for a new project and ready to tell you all about it with childlike excitement and genuine, contagious enthusiasm. Or maybe you remember him picking up and inspecting every toy on every shelf of the toy aisle at Rite Aid, deciding which ones were good enough to make the cut for donating to local children in need. The thought of any child not getting that perfect present on Christmas morning was enough to bring him to tears, so every year Chris embodied the spirit of Santa proudly, donating bundles and bundles of toys for local kids. This act truly was Chris living his best life and made such a loving impact, and we know that his absence will be felt this holiday season for so many. The timing of this release was intentionally closer to Christmas to ask that all of you out there who knew and loved Chris: please consider donating a toy or gift to your community’s holiday children’s toy drive in his honor. This special, cherished activity is a part of Chris’s legacy that his family will ensure lives on, and we humbly invite you to join us in a practice that says everything about the guy we all love so much.

A celebration of life will be scheduled next spring/summer, when it is safe to accommodate all the people who knew and loved Chris. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.mainefuneral.com
