WORCESTER-Gurli I. (Swenson) Carlson passed away at her home on March 5, 2006 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Carl O. Carlson on April 5, 1990. She leaves three sons; Roger E. Carlson of Hopkinton, Paul G. Carlson of Worcester and Dennis A. Carlson of Hopkinton, five grandchildren, a great grandson and her sister, Birgit Patterson of Holden. A brother Elof Swenson predeceased her.
Gurli was born in Goteborg, Sweden to Gerda (Welin) and Gustaf E. Swenson and came to America when she was eleven years old. She graduated from Worcester State Hospital as a registered nurse. She worked at Worcester County Hospital in Boylston for 24 years until 1975 when she retired.
Gurli was honored by the King & Queen of Sweden at the Ellis Island Museum opening ceremonies where she spoke of her own Ellis Island experience and her transition to life in America. She enjoyed many summers and good times at Singletary Lake with her friends and family. Gurli will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
