Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Stylianos “Stelios” Manolarakis, 89, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, October 17, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at Sixteen Acres Health Care Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Meskla, Crete, Greece on May 8, 1931, a beloved son of the late Theodoros and Agapi (Angelakis) Manolarakis. He was raised in Greece and served in the Greek military during the Korean War. He immigrated to the United States and settled in Springfield in 1968 where he lived the remainder of his life. Stelios was employed as a machinist at Storm Drop Forge in Springfield and managed the Cretan Club in Springfield for many years with his late wife, Eleftheria. He was a communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and a member of the Cretan Association, both in Springfield. Most of all, he was a hard working man who deeply loved his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Eleftheria (Anezakis) Manolarakis who was Called Home on August 22, 2020. He leaves his loving son and daughter-in-law, Nikolaos S. Manolarakis and his wife, Sheila, of Springfield; his four cherished grandchildren, Niko Manolarakis and his wife, Heather, Stephen Manolarakis and his partner, Christina Mallet, and Anthony and Christopher Manolarakis; his cherished great-granddaughter, Lillian Manolarakis; his dear sister-in-law, Kay Kazalis of Springfield; his dear brother-in-law, Antonios Anezakis of Athens, Greece; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Manolarakis and Anezakis families. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Manos Manolarakis; and his dear nephew, Theodoros Manolarakis. Stylianos will Repose in State on Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. which will be followed by a Funeral Service at 10 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and Cathedral capacity is limited due to state regulations). His Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 Saint George Road, Springfield, MA 01104.
