Salvatore J. Viola
Retired Member of Teamster’s Local # 25

DRACUT: Salvatore J. “Sal” Viola, age 89, of Dracut, a former longtime resident of Tewksbury, passed away at home in the care of his family and hospice on Saturday, October 17, 2020.

He was the beloved husband of Louise A. (Sabella) Viola, with whom he celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on June 3, 2020.

Born in Cambridge on October 12, 1931, he was the son of the late Gaspare Viola and the late Anne (Meile) Viola.

Sal was raised in Cambridge, attended Cambridge schools, and graduated from Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School.

Following his high school years, Sal served in the Army National Guard.

He resided in Tewksbury for 48 years until moving to Dracut in 2019.

Prior to his retirement, he was a member of Teamster’s Local # 25, and worked as a Truck Driver for McLean Trucking for 40 years, and Mass. Crinc for 8 years.

In his spare time, Sal enjoyed traveling to Foxwoods Resort & Casino, vacationing with his family on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard, taking road trips throughout New England with his wife. In addition, he was an avid New England Professional Sports fan especially of Boston Bruins Hockey.

Besides his wife, Sal is survived by four children, James J. Viola and his wife Judith of Tewksbury, Denise V. Podzycki and her husband Stanley of Dracut, John J. Viola and his wife Lorraine of Canton, and Edward G. Viola and his wife Jeanette of Nashua, NH; his son-in- law, James Crowley of Billerica, who was the husband of Sal’s late son Ronald F. Viola; seven grandchildren, Jamie Chambers, Mario Viola and his wife Elizabeth, Ashley Podzycki, Jaclyn, Cassie, and Nicholas Viola, and Vanessa Visentin and her husband Steve; four great grandchildren, Gianna and Adrianna Chambers, Connor Viola, and Violet Visentin. He also leave many extended family members and friends.

Sal was the brother of the late Rita Sabella.

Family and friends are invited to meet at St. William’s Church at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21st, for his Funeral Mass. Church limited to 80 attendees. Masks, face coverings and social distancing at all venues are required for those attending. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. There are No Calling Hours. Kindly Omit Flowers. Donations honoring his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
