Obituary

CHICOPEE – Jean A. (Bushey) Omer, 95, of The Arbors in Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, October 17, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at Willimansett Center West in Chicopee surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born in Springfield on June 13, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late Leo A. and Jeanie M. (Smith) Bushey. She was raised in Springfield and graduated in 1943 from Classical High School. Jean and her late husband, Russ, lived in East Springfield for many years and later lived in the Glenwood section of Springfield near her husband’s business, Russ’ Restaurant. They lived in Brimfield for several years at their lake house on Little Alum Pond where they had many fond memories of boating, swimming and picnics with their family and many friends. In her later years, Jean and Russ lived in Atwater Park and lastly at The Arbors in Chicopee. During World War II, Jean served as a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. Jean was well-known for her cooking and baking skills by everyone who ate at Russ’ Restaurant at Glenwood Circle in Springfield. She made all the soups, delicious pies, cakes and wonderful creampuffs and was often seen helping her beloved husband, Russ. During her leisure time, she enjoyed antiquing, furniture refinishing and going to the flea markets, especially in Brimfield. She previously was a licensed real estate broker but most of all was a wonderful homemaker to her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Russell Omer who was Called Home on December 30, 2015. They were married in Springfield on November 2, 1947 and enjoyed over 68 years of happiness together. She was also predeceased by her loving daughter, Karen J. (Omer) Knowles Conners who was Called Home on November 27, 2011; and her dear brother, Nelson C. Bushey. She leaves her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Russell J. Omer and his wife, Pamela, of Naples, FL; her devoted daughter, Deborah Omer of Springfield; her ten cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Omer, Charles Omer and his wife, Dana, Russell Omer, Andrew Omer and his wife, Peyton, Adam Lunghi and his wife, Meghan, Sam Quinn Omer, Joseph Quinn Omer, Michael Knowles, Kimberly Trikas and her husband, Anthony, and Kristin Sleeper; her seven cherished great-grandchildren, Payten Omer, Abigail Lunghi, Caroline Lunghi, Anthony Trikas, Jr., Alexis Trikas, Victoria Sleeper and Alexander Sleeper; her dear sister, Nancy Carling of North Port, FL; her dear sister-in-law, Helen Omer of West Palm Beach, FL; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended members of the Omer and Bushey families and friends. Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Arbors in Chicopee for the wonderful care they provided to Jean over the past six years. A private Graveside Service will be held for her family at Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield. There are no visiting hours. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
