Donald Gerald Harrison, 75, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Friday, October 16, 2020, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be 4 PM, Monday, October 19, 2020, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Rex Johnson and the Rev. Ike Thomas officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Harrison was born October 20, 1944, in Bartow, Florida, to the late Jeff & Anna Jackson Harrison. He worked in the phosphate mines in Florida and moved to Irwin County in 1982 from Alturas, Florida. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Ben Hill Truck & Tractor. He was a truck driver for Ross of Georgia and Irwinville Peanut & Grain. He worked in grounds maintenance for ICS&M and was also a corrections officer at the Irwin County Detention Center. He loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Johnnie Faye Hogan Harrison of Irwin County; two daughters: Sheila & Michael Reed of Irwin County and Christine & Duane Williams of Midland; grandchildren: J.C. & Amanda Dukes, Samantha Reed, James Peacock, Raegan & Jeremy Wortham, and Noah Williams; great-grandchildren: Dakota Dukes, Colton Dukes, Kaitlyn Reed, Devin Reed, Cayden Reed, and Olivia Wortham; and a sister, Betty Benton of Mulberry, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Wayne Harrison; and a brother, Houston Harrison.
