Obituary

Leonard C. Hill of Medway, passed away after a brief illness Friday morning October 9th, 2020 at the age of 85.

Born on August 19, 1935 in Cambridge; son of the late Aloysius J. Hill and Catherine (Curtis) Hill; Len was raised in Watertown and has been a Medway resident since 1960.
Len was a lifelong athlete, teacher and coach. He was inducted into the Watertown High School Football Hall of Fame as a quarterback and continued in that role as an Academic All American at Boston University. Upon graduating from college, Len began teaching physics and coaching football at a number of area schools; Bridgewater-Raynham, Waltham and Woburn. His love of teaching extended beyond school. For many winters he taught skiing at Wildcat Mountain in New Hampshire. In the summers, he was the waterfront director at Camp Alpine on Cape Cod training the lifeguard staff and teaching swimming and diving to the campers.
After retiring as the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Special Education of the Medway Public Schools, Len filled his time travelling around the world and rediscovering the hobby of wood carving. He joined the Central Mass Caricature Carvers Club and made a lot of wonderful friends along the way to becoming an award winning caricature carver. His sense of humor and attention to detail made the group a perfect fit for him.
He also enjoyed the outdoors; walking in the woods, landscaping his yard and building field-stone walls. It was yet another outlet for his creativity.
But more than anything, Len adored his family. He was a wonderful, loving husband, a fantastic father, and the best grandfather for which any child could possibly wish.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Barbara (Emery) Hill, his loving children, son Steve Hill, daughter Jini Hill and her husband John Abbondanza, and his cherished granddaughter Nicole Abbondanza. In addition, he is survived by his dear sister Katherine Carey as well as many nieces and nephews.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, and the family’s desire to protect friends and extended family, no services will be held.
Arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomwes.com).
