Howard W. Martin, 73, of Brockton, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, October 12, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
He was born in Concord, NH to the late Frank M. Martin, Jr. and Kathleen M. Martin. Howard grew up in Weymouth, MA, graduating from Weymouth High School in 1964. He also attended Lincoln College at Northeastern University. Howard has been a resident of Brockton for 50 years. He worked as an Outside Machinist at General Dynamics, Quincy Shipbuilding from 1965–1971 having gone through the apprenticeship program and became an Employee Development Instructor there from 1971 until 1973. He worked for Stone and Webster Engineering from 1973 until 2013 in the Mechanical Piping Group.
Howard was a Shop Steward for IFPTE Association of Architects & Draftsmen, Local 105 and a Treasurer of Local 105 IFPTE. A former Charter Partner Representative and Committee Member of Boy Scout Troop 29, sponsored by Union Congregation Church of East Bridgewater, Howard spent many wonderful days working at Camp Squanto in any capacity needed. He was a member of Holbrook Sportsman Club, as well as Old Colony YMCA. A long-time member of Union Congregation Church, Howard has served on many boards and committees, serving as the Treasurer since 2005.
Survivors include his wife Patricia, his son Garold and his wife Christine of Terry, MS, and son Sean of Boston, his sister Eve Berlo and her husband Robert of Norwell, his brother Frank and his wife Mary of Rockland, and his brother-in-law Paul McWilliams of Duxbury. He leaves three grandchildren Chance, Jared and Kathleen and one great-grandson Wyatt and several nieces and a nephew.
Visiting hours will be held this Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Blanchard’s Funeral Chapel in Whitman from 10 AM - 12 PM, following strict COVID guidelines. All other services are private.
