Obituary

CHICOPEE – The Raymond family announces the passing of their beloved father, Arnold E. Raymond, of Chicopee, who died suddenly on October 9, 2020, at the age of 80. Arnold was born in Worcester to the late Arthur and Rita (Bourdeau) Raymond and raised in Holyoke with his three loving sisters, Cynthia Curran, Sandy Elliott (Rich), Robin Tetrault (Charles), and his predeceased brothers, Donald and James. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Diana Principe (Geno) and Michele Boisvert (Danny), and will be remembered as a steady source of love and guidance. One of Arnold’s proudest accomplishments was serving his country as a signalman in the United States Navy on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, attaining the rank of Seaman 2nd Class. He was stationed throughout the Mediterranean with ports of call including Rome, Naples, and Barcelona. These experiences inspired a love of learning and a penchant for military and international history. Arnold recounted these stories and enjoyed sharing these hobbies with his four cherished grandsons -- Maximilian and Lucas Principe, Jacob and Cameron Boisvert. He will be remembered by them as Pepe: a patient listener, an ever-present counselor, and a readily available wellspring of knowledge. Arnold received an Associate Degree in Business from Holyoke Community College and was employed for 40 years as a machinist at the former AMPAD Company in Holyoke. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Holyoke and a former member of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks 1849. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, October 19, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 11:15 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Prayer Service at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001 (please note that masks are required at the funeral home and cemetery with social distancing per Massachusetts guidelines). Please consider a donation in Arnold’s memory to the Friends of the Soldiers’ Home, Inc., PO Box 1338, Holyoke, MA 01041-1338.
