Robert F. "Bobby" Rooney Jr., a longtime resident of Charlestown who also lived in West Roxbury, New Jersey, New York and California, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his bedside on Monday, October 12, 2020. He was 60 years of age.
Bobby was born in Chelsea on March 2, 1960, a son of Robert F. "Bob" Rooney and the late Patricia A. (Hayes) Rooney. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Boston Technical High School in 1978. Bobby furthered his education and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Suffolk University in 1982. While growing up in Charlestown, Bobby was always very involved in the Charlestown youth hockey program and was known for his finesse in goaltending . Bobby was working as the Chief Financial Officer at Brimmer & May School in Chestnut Hill and had previously worked as the Chief Financial Officer for the Bancroft School in Worcester, Masters School in New York, Woodland School in California and the Dwight Englewood School in New Jersey. While holding the position as Chief Financial Officer, Bobby was always concerned and advocated for each individual whether a student, teacher or employee of the institution to make sure that finances would not become a burden and that individuals receive what was deserved. He was also involved in real estate and enjoyed buying and selling homes in the different areas of the country that he and his wife Ani lived. In his spare time, Bobby and Ani enjoyed walking, going to the Theatre and for the last 25 years having lunch together on a daily basis. Family was paramount in Bobby's life and he enjoyed each and every day with his wife and 2 sons. He cherished the quality moments he spent with his grandsons and never looked back on his life with any regrets.
Bobby is the beloved husband of 38 years to Ani N. (Yessayan) Rooney. He is the devoted father of Anthony R. Rooney and his wife Michelle and Danny J. Rooney and his partner TJ Witham. He is the loving Grandpa to Mikey and Billy. He is the beloved son of Robert F. "Bob" Rooney and the late Patricia A. (Hayes) Rooney. He is the beloved brother of Patricia Pesaturo and her husband James, Gerry Rooney and his wife Beth and Eileen Rooney and her wife Leah. He is the loving uncle to Sarah, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Rachel, Hannah, Gerard, Terrell and Benjamin.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bobby's visiting hours on Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 3 to 5 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. (FACIAL COVERINGS ARE REQUIRED INSIDE FUNERAL HOME,) His Funeral Service and burial will be private.
