New Bedford – Genoveva (Linhares) Gafanhoto, age 77, of So. Dartmouth, MA passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Jose Gafanhoto.
Born in Ribeira Quente, St. Michael, Azores she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Filomena (Augosta) Linhares. Genoveva had worked as a machine operator for Quaker Manufacturing for many years and had also been a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jose; her 3 children, Jarles Gafanhoto, Loriann Gioni and her husband Nicolas and Jason Gafanhoto and his fiancé Amy; 2 grandchildren, Giuliana Gioni and Henry Gioni; siblings, Antonio Linhares and his wife Audette and Leonice Costa and her husband Eduino; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Manuel Linhares.
Genoveva’s visiting hours will be held on Friday evening, October 9, 2020 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Her funeral will be Saturday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to practice social distancing of 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home.
