Obituary

David L. Watson, 49, of New Bedford died Saturday July 13, 2002 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Freetown. He was the husband of June M. (Monteiro) Watson, and son of Leola Watson of Dorchester and the late Roosevelt Dials.

Mr. Watson was born in Boston and had lived in Boston for most of his life before moving to New Bedford 13 years ago.

Mr. Watson was employed as a bricklayer mason with the Bricklayer Masons Allied Craftsmen of Eastern Massachusetts Union, Local 3. Previously, he had been a youth counselor for the New England Home for Little Wanderers and Children in Crisis. He had also been a counselor at the Red Auerbach Basketball Camp for 13 years.

Survivors include his wife; his mother; a son, David Benson of Kissimmee, Florida; 2 brothers, Michael Watson and Byron Watson, both of Dorchester; 2 sisters, Lanette Williams and Nadena Watson, both of Roxbury; his mother-in-law, Evelyn G. Gomes of New Bedford; his father-in-law, Arthur Monteiro of Newport, RI; his stepfather -in-law, Bartolomeu M. Gomes of New Bedford; his sister-in-law, Janice G. Monteiro of New Bedford; 2 brothers-in-law, Arthur "Buddy" Monteiro, Jr. and Allan J. Monteiro, both of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren, Gregory Tillery and Giani Tillery; 2 godchildren, Lillian Robinson and Anthony Price; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.He was the father of the late Gregory David Tillery.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Twelfth Baptist Church, 160 Warren St., Roxbury, Thursday July 18, 2002 at 12 Noon, with visitation at Church from 11AM-12 Noon, prior to the Service. Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Wednesday July 17, 2002 4-8 PM. Interment Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park.
