Obituary

Herman T. Sanborn
BUXTON -- Herman T. Sanborn, 88, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2020, after several years of declining health due to Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's Disease. (non-COVID)
Herman was born in Baldwin Maine to the late Preston and Mildred Clara (Nason) Sanborn. The second youngest of 13, he grew up poor, had hand-me-down clothes and shoes, and worked the farm. To help put food on the table, he would often hide his gun in a culvert to be used for hunting after school. A fishing pole was a backup, just in case!
After attending local area schools, he married Alice Perry and they were inseparable for nearly 63 years before her passing in 2012. They lived in Scarborough for over 30 years before moving to Buxton.
Herman worked in the woods cutting trees with an axe and saw, driving truck, and other jobs, to provide for his young family so they didn’t go without.
He worked for S.D. Warren for nearly 40 years retiring in 1989. Over the years, he enjoyed time at Nason’s Beach in Sebago, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, rv camping and horseshoes with friends in the Good Sam Club Pinecrafter’s chapter, the annual week at the Fryeburg Fair socializing (and ‘feeding’ the horses!), and staying home with his kitties! Alice had also kept him busy with craft projects and honey-do lists, along with his own projects (and us kids projects too!) around the house. Many activities were done with his sister and brother-in-law, Gustie and Avery Howard, with whom they were especially close to.
We take great comfort that ‘Puppa’ is reunited with ‘Mammy’, who he has severely missed since her passing. They’re probably hoofin’ it up at the Dancemore on the way to the Fair!!
Herman, aka: Sandy, Herm, Dad, Puppa, and Pup, will be forever lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Mark Sanborn and his wife Terri of Windham; son, Daniel Sanborn and his wife Diane of Florida; daughter, Joy Harvey and her husband Lee of South Portland; grandchildren, Jennifer Greslick and her husband Ben of Windham, Bethany Benson and her husband Robert of Windham, TJ Sanborn and his wife Erica of Eliot, Aaron Harvey and his partner Sophie White of Arizona, Alyssa Harvey and her husband Brandon Skelton of Standish; great-grandchildren, Mary, Xander and Amelia Greslick, Anthony and Lauren Benson all of Windham; and sister Rebecca (Sanborn) Chute of Windham.
The family gives heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Ledgewood Nursing Home in Windham and Compassus Hospice for their exceptional care, compassion, and support for Herman and the family during this difficult journey. We are forever in your debt.
And finally, Dad never failed to make Joy feel appreciated as his caregiver and reminded her every day of how well she took care of him.
Thanks Dad, and keep your powder dry!! Til we meet again...

A graveside service will be held on Thursday October 8th at 10:00 a.m. at the New West Baldwin Cemetery, Rt 113 in Baldwin. Please be mindful of distancing and masks.
