Obituary


Lowell Preston Daniels, age 87, of Stone Ridge, formerly of Clipper Drive, Mystic, died Friday evening at Avalon Health Care Center after a brief illness.

Born 1918 in Milwaukee, WI, Mr. Daniels was raised and educated in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1941, he was commissioned a Naval Officer, and was stationed in the New York shipbuilding industry on Engineering Duty. Mr. Daniels then graduated from MIT as a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer in 1950, serving in the US Navy 27 years attaining the rank of Captain.

Retiring to Mystic in 1968, he enjoyed gardening, sailing, woodworking, and traveling. Mr. Daniels served on the board of Child and Family Agencies, and was elected volunteer of the year. Mr. and Mrs. Daniels traveled in retirement to Africa, Tibet, China, Egypt, Australia, Alaska, Galapagos, Europe and Russian and enjoyed winters in Hawaii for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth H. Daniels of Mystic, and 3 sons and their wives, David and Kathleen Daniels of Red Wing, MN, John and Marcia Daniels of The Plains, VA, and Christopher Daniels and Laurel Butler, of Mystic, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 11 at 11am at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 19 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial will follow in St. Mark’s Memorial Garden. There are no visiting hours.
