Obituary

ARUNDEL – Charlotte Schafer Timberlake, 76, of 52 Fairway Drive, Arundel passed away peacefully on September 14, 2020 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a long illness. She was born Charlotte Huse Schafer on June 14, 1944 in Albany, NY, the daughter of Charles Edward Schafer and M. Frances (Huse) Schafer. At age six weeks she was carried by her mother on the train to Evanston Illinois where she spent her early childhood. At the age of seven she moved with her mother and older sister to Farmington Falls, Me. She attended Farmington schools and graduated from Farmington High School. For several years she raised her two sons as a single mother, working as a waitress, and selling Tupperware while taking night classes at UMF, and finally getting a full time job at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Her career there in accounting and the business office spanned over 38 years, retiring in 2009.On July 9, 1983 she married James Timberlake. They resided in Wilton until 2011, thereafter moving to Arundel. Charlotte was quite artistic, and enjoyed writing, painting and making stained glass pieces. She also compiled an extensive family history going back to her roots in England in the 1600’s. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and visited over forty states and many National and State Parks. They also toured Europe and spent parts of several winters on St. Maarten in the Caribbean. She spent much time with her biological grandchildren and wrote extensive journals of their exploits. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Anne Desens, and older son, William Brown who was killed at age 24 in a hunting incident. Survivors include her husband ; son Russell Dill and his wife Wanda Tarbox of Saco, their two children, Brian and Peyton; Step children Calli Golding and her husband Rob of Mechanic Falls; Eric Timberlake and his wife Lisa of Industry; Licia Sherwood and her husband David of Auburn; and Holly Ousback and companion Bob Burachynski of Gorham; nine step grandchildren and eleven step great grandchildren
An immediate family gathering will be held at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, in Buxton on September 19th. Burial will be at a later date at the Fairview Cemetery in Farmington, ME In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine at 390 US Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074, or given online at www.hospiceofsouthernmaine.org/give.
