Obituary

Einar Ruud, 84, of North Falmouth, MA passed away peacefully on September 12, 2020 surrounded by his family and friends.

Born in Brooklyn, NY to Norwegian immigrant parents, Einar joined the Air Force at the remarkably young age of 16, serving around the world and across the United States as a Radarman. Einar met his wife, Tillie, while stationed on Cape Cod for the first time in 1955.

Retiring as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service, he returned to Cape Cod in 1974. Among many other projects, Einar worked on the construction of the original power plant smokestack in Sandwich. He went on to work for Denmark Pharmacy and Surgical Supplies as the Equipment Maintenance Manager before starting his own home maintenance and handyman business.

Over the past 40 years, the North Falmouth and Megansett community called on Einar for everything from getting rid of a pesky raccoon to troubleshooting a wet basement. Known to be able to fix anything, he was truly a jack-of-all-trades and master of them, too. He loved to create and construct, building his own camper, wood splitter, submarine, parakite, kayak aka “home-ak”, hanglider and homes wherever he lived.

Often referred to as the honorary “Mayor of Megansett,” he was well known for building and maintaining the float and shower at the Megansett town pier. On most summer days Einar could be found riding around the harbor on his legendary red scooter. After checking the tide and winds, he would set out on his home-ak, his sunfish or his boat for spearfishing Tautog at Half Tide Rock for “family” fish fries.

Einar is survived by his wife of 63 years, Priscilla “Tillie” (nee Jennings), his daughter, Diane Popovich of Falmouth, his grandchildren, Gabrielle and Nicholas Popovich and many kind and generous neighbors, relatives and friends. He was a friend to all, helping wherever he was needed and will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Einar will be interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery on Friday, September 25th at 1:15, please arrive by 1:00, masks are required. The family will also host an open house in their back yard that afternoon from 2:30-4:30, please wear masks.
