Obituary

Wells, North Baldwin- Genevieve “Gennie” Decker 88 passed-away peacefully on September 9, 2020 after a period of failing health. She was born on March 10, 1932 in Canaan, NH to Ralph and Mildred (Whittemore) Williams. Gennie was one of fourteen children and at an early age learned to sew. Her love of sewing lead her to a career as a seamstress making prom dresses and wedding gowns some of which she designed. She later designed and made clothes under her own label “Chickadee of Maine” and were sold in shops from Arundel and Kennebunk to Wells and Ogunquit Beach. Through one of her vendors, her designs were featured and sold from a mail-order fashion magazine in New York. Gennie was also a great baker, cake decorator, and donut maker. For several years she filled the bakery case with homemade confections at a shop called “Pastors Lunch” in Cornish that she and her husband owned. It only made sense that after retiring from sewing, she went to work in the Hannaford’s Bakery.
