Obituary

Peter E. Barrows, age 60, of Harwich Port, formerly of Canton, Sharon, and Stoughton passed away at his home September 6th. Born February 21st, 1960 in Boston, the first child of Edward and Helene (Mangan) Barrows, he was raised in Canton, Stoughton and Sharon, MA. Peter also lived in Cape Coral, FL for some time as a child. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1978. Peter then went on to study at Northeastern University.
He worked as an IT Analyst for the Executive Office of Health and Human Services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and was a former employee of New England Telephone and later AT&T after divestiture. While living in Stoughton, he served as a board member of the Stoughton Extended Day Program.
Peter’s passions included woodworking, muscle cars, and music. He also fostered a lifelong interest in architecture and design, which was evident in his outstanding pride of home ownership, boasting a long list of impressive renovations and improvements. Peter experienced the honor of walking both of his daughters down the aisle on their wedding day, and seeing each of them purchase their first home.
Peter was a beloved husband, devoted father, loyal brother and an adored uncle. He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Cindy L. (Hummel) Barrows of Harwich Port, his daughters Glenn Ann (Barrows) Geiler and her husband Bryan of Marshfield and Joelle E. (Barrows) O’Rourke and her husband Patrick of South Yarmouth, his brother Michael J. Barrows and wife Leslie of Newton and sister Susan (Barrows) Smith and husband Scott of South Easton, and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home: 455 Washington St. in Canton on Friday September 11th from 4-8 pm. Due to current Covid 19 restrictions, only 25 guests will be allowed in the funeral home at a time. Masks are required, and guests should bring their own pens to sign the register book. A private service for the family will be held on Saturday September 12th, with burial to follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
