Evelio Rodriguez, age 83 of Brockton, died August 21, 2020 in Brockton. He was the husband of Maria (Morales) Rodriguez for 53 years. Evelio was born and raised in Yauco, Puerto Rico a son of the late Emiliano and Joaquina (Echavarria) Rodriguez. He has lived in Brockton for the past 18 years.
Evelio was educated in Puerto Rico and also attended Roxbury Community College. During the early 1960s Evelio served in the US Army.
For many years, Evelio had been a security guard in Puerto Rico and the Boston area.
Evelio loved baseball and the Boston Red Sox. He was a Sudoku master, skilled domino player and card player. He was also a talented mechanic and could fix just about anything. He also enjoyed working around his yard.
Evelio will be remembered as a proud, strict, serious and very direct man who was also kind and caring.
Survivors include five children, Claribel Rodriguez and her husband Rafael Rodriguez of Puerto Rico, Evelio Rodriguez, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, Edgardo Rodriguez and his wife Leslie of N. Attleboro, Maribel Rodriguez of Brockton and Miguel A. Rodriguez of Piney Point, Maryland. He leaves twelve grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Roulan Rodriguez of Roslindale, MA and several deceased brothers and sisters.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton on Thursday 4-8 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 10:30am. Burial with military honors in the Mass National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
