Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Eleftheria (Anezakis) Manolarakis, 86, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, August 22, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Lakki, Chania, Crete, Greece on June 10, 1934, a beloved daughter of the late Iakovos and Evangelia (Theodorakis) Anezakis. She was raised in Greece and immigrated to Springfield in 1968 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as a baker at the former A & P Bakery on Plainfield Street and later worked as a machine operator at the former Moore Drop Forge, both in Springfield. She also was a longtime cook at the Cretan Club in Springfield. She was a member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She leaves her beloved husband of 60 years, Stylianos Manolarakis; her loving son and daughter-in-law, Nikolaos S. Manolarakis and his wife, Sheila, of Springfield; her four cherished grandchildren, Niko Manolarakis and his wife, Heather, Stephen Manolarakis and his partner, Christina Mallet, and Anthony and Christopher Manolarakis; her cherished great-granddaughter, Lillian Manolarakis; her dear sister, Kay Kazalis of Springfield; her dear brother, Antonios Anezakis and his wife, Koula, of Athens, Greece; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Manolarakis and Anezakis families. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two dear brothers, Stelios and Manoli Anezakis. She will Repose in State on Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. which will be followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and Cathedral capacity is limited due to state regulations). Her Burial will be private at Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 Saint George Road, Springfield, MA 01104.
