Obituary

VIGLIANO, Daniel D., 35, loving son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on August 17, 2020 when his body failed him after years of addiction and mental health issues. This is not what defined him. Dan was known by his family and friends as a charismatic, intelligent, quick witted, helpful, and colorful person with an infectious laugh. When Dan was in the room there was always laughter, the kind so joyous you could barely breath. We always looked forward to Dan’s visit during holidays, you never knew what to expect but you knew it was going to be fun. His mother was often the target of his jokes and impersonations. Truth be told, his mom never minded — she loved it! And Dan would never leave a family member (including pets) without giving them a huge bear hug and telling them he loved them.

Dan was an avid lover of all music. Dan played several instruments well, yet he could not read a note. He played trumpet in the High School Jazz band and was known to sway his silver trumpet from side to side as he played with joy. Dan had a strong ear for music and could hear a song, then sit down at the piano to play. Dan’s favorite instrument, the guitar, was his constant companion. Dan could play both a 6 string and 12-string guitar. He enjoyed playing for people, no matter where he was. He composed beautiful music on the guitar, and all his compositions were in his head.

Dan also loved riding his mountain bike, one year riding his bike from Bourne to P-town to raise money for cancer. He enjoyed chess and sailing with his stepfather Mark. He insisted on helping Mark raise the mast every year, always with a new American flag in hand. Although new to sailing, Dan’s mechanical abilities were such he was able to assist Mark in improving the process. His methods are used today. Dan found it a perfect day when he could sit on his kayak and fish, even if he came up empty handed.

After Dan earned his GED, he eventually went on to earn his HVAC degree from Kaplan University in 2008. That was a proud moment for Dan and his family.

Most importantly, Dan wanted to live! He put up a strong and brave fight. He was full of life, had dreams of a future career, family and sobriety. Sadly, his body grew too tired. He is now free from pain and we’re sure he is playing music with the angels and spreading his boisterous joy we know him for. Dan was not just “another statistic,” he had a great heart, friends and family that will truly miss his humor, and gifts that the world lost and can never be replaced. Thank you for all the love, joy, and lessons you brought to this world and our lives. You are truly missed.

Dan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Capt. Robert Russell and Rachel Russell and paternal grandmother Carol Vigliano. He is survived by his mother Susan Kinnane, stepfather Mark Kinnane, father Edward R. Vigliano, stepmother Liz Vigliano, his sister Hannah Vigliano, his nephew Miles, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

An intimate celebration of life will be held on September 19, 2020 with invitations to follow. A larger celebration will be held at a later date due to COVID. As Dan was an avid lover of animals, especially rescue animals, donations may be sent in Daniel Vigliano’s name to the MSPCA.
